After countless hours of tireless work and preparation, the hard work and dedication of our team at Blue Grass MOTORSPORT paid off in the form of a first-place finish in the 2024 Porsche Restoration Challenge. Taking home top honors in the Restoration & People’s Choice category, our 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo earned the victory in truly impressive fashion after sitting dormant for 15 years. Our team worked meticulously to rebuild the engine, rework the entire electrical system, rebuild the suspension, and restore the stunning Peru Red exterior finish. Every component was carefully scrutinized and repaired, allowing this special 930 Turbo to perform exactly as it did back in 1977.
A reflection of the commitment to excellence and the passion for this special Porsche shared by each of our team members, Blue Grass MOTORSPORT is proud to earn this coveted win in one of the world’s most prestigious restoration events. Whether you currently drive a modern Porsche or you’re eager to return your classic Porsche to its former glory, you’ll receive the same award-winning care and attention with each visit to our Service Center here at Blue Grass MOTORSPORT.
For the fourth consecutive year, Porsche Classic is honored to host the nationwide Restoration Challenge. This event gives participating dealerships the chance to return an iconic Porsche sports car of the past to its original condition. Porsche-trained technicians, the most qualified individuals in the industry, are then tasked with completing technical work and overseeing the progress of the restoration. They will have access to a portfolio of more than 80,000 unique Porsche Classic Genuine Parts at their disposal. Over 60 dealers are expected to participate in the 2024 edition of the Challenge.
Changes to the Challenge this year include the debut of a new Grand National Champion that will be selected from the National Class Champions. New requirements have been added to the Preservation Class as well, and it is the Preservation class that Blue Grass MOTORSPORT is competing in for 2024.
At the conclusion of last year’s event, anticipation remained high for the upcoming challenge in 2024. “Sharing this year’s Restoration Challenge finalists at Rennsport Reunion 7 has provided an exhilarating platform, not only for Porsche Classic but for our Porsche Center finalists to share their cars and passion,” said Jonathan Sieber, Senior Manager of Porsche Classic. “Seeing the crowd’s reaction to the amazing craftsmanship is a joy.”
Featuring a highly desirable combination of a rare Peru Red exterior and Cork leather interior, this special 1977 911 Turbo (930) is the perfect candidate for the 2024 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge. This remarkable 911 Turbo was initially purchased in Texas by a long-time client named Charles Osborn. Mr. Osborn grew his assisted living and long-term care business in Texas for many years before selling his business and relocating to Louisville in the 1980s where he worked in real estate development. While his lifelong passion for sports cars remained, Charles eventually gifted the car to his son Colin. Following his recent passing, Colin decided that it was time to part with the car and make it available to Blue Grass MOTORSPORT for this year’s restoration project.
Although the vehicle has just 11,000 original miles, it sat un-driven in storage for many years. And while it was lovingly cared for, many of the original components including drive belts, fuel lines, and other mechanical components required replacement in order to get this classic Porsche roadworthy once again. This particular vehicle is a true driver’s car, not a babied example that spent more time behind velvet ropes rather than on the streets. As such, it’s in need of some specialized care and attention to get it looking and running its best. Now under the ownership of the dealership, this special 911 Turbo will be available for purchase once this year’s Challenge has been completed!
